本講義は、英語による発信能力の向上に焦点を当て、特にスピーチとライティングの基礎を固めることを目的とする。日本の英語教育における課題を踏まえ、受講者は、楽しく、かつ実用的に発信能力を身につける。
授業内容 基礎力養成:
英語学習法: 効果的な学習法を学び、自律的な学習者となるためのスキルを身につける。 語彙・文法: 発信に必要な語彙・文法知識を強化する。 発音・イントネーション: スピーチにおける発音・イントネーションの重要性を理解し、改善を図る。
スピーチ基礎: スピーチ構成: 説得力のあるスピーチの構成を学ぶ。 スピーチ準備: テーマ選定、原稿作成、リハーサルなど、スピーチの準備段階におけるスキルを養う。 英語でのやり取り: スピーチやプレゼンテーションに必要な英語での質疑応答、議論、意見交換などの練習を行う。
ライティング: ライティング基礎: 文法、語彙、構成など、ライティングの基礎を固める。 ライティング実践: エッセイ、レポート、Eメールなど、様々なライティング形式を実践する。 添削・フィードバック: 相互添削や教員からのフィードバックを通して、ライティングスキルを向上させる。
発信と受信の連携:（受信ができなければ、意味のある発信はできない） 受信能力の重要性: 発信能力を高めるためには、受信能力も不可欠であることを理解する。 受信と発信の相互作用: 受信した情報を分析し、発信に活かす方法を学ぶ。
多様なコンテンツの活用: 動画: TED Talk、ニュース映像など、多様な動画コンテンツを視聴し、発信のヒントを得る。 音声: ポッドキャスト、音楽など、多様な音声コンテンツを聴取し、発音・イントネーションの学習に役立てる。 文章: ニュース記事、ブログ記事など、多様な文章コンテンツを読み、語彙・文法、構成の学習に役立てる。
能動的な学習: グループワーク: テーマについて議論したり、スピーチの練習をしたりする。 発表: 授業で学んだことを発表する機会を設ける。 ポートフォリオ: 自身の学習過程を記録し、振り返る。
以上に加えて、英語を実生活で使う能力（音声と文字で理解して伝えるなど、やりとり能力）も向上させ、そのための学習スキルを身につけることも目標とします。英文字を見るだけでも吐き気がする程度に嫌いになってしまっているのであれば、無理やり好きになる必要はありませんが、少なくとも文字・音声情報の内容を理解できるところまで持っていき、必要な時に読める・書ける・聞ける・話せる、とにかく実際の場面で使えるようにすることも目的とします。そこでは、高校までに染みついてしまった「解くための英語」から脱却し、実際に通じる使える英語を目指します。更に、語学習得において弊害になっている可能性がある固定観念も少しずつ変えてもらいます。そのことによって日本語や母語のみでは入らない情報を手にいれる術も身につけます。また、間違ったり、通じない状況になった場合、必要に応じて言い換える、もう一度聞き直すなどコミュニケーションを円滑にするための能力も高め、自分の言語能力をメタ認知できるようにするための基礎を固めます。
This course focuses on improving students' ability to communicate effectively in English, with an emphasis on solidifying the fundamentals of speech and writing. Addressing the challenges of English education in Japan, students will learn to communicate enjoyably and practically.
Course Content Foundational Skills: English Learning Strategies: Students will acquire effective learning strategies and skills to become independent learners. Vocabulary and Grammar: Students will strengthen their knowledge of vocabulary and grammar necessary for communication. Pronunciation and Intonation: Students will understand the importance of pronunciation and intonation in speeches and work to improve their skills.
Speech Fundamentals: Speech Structure: Students will learn how to create a persuasive speech. Speech Preparation: Students will develop skills in the preparatory stages of speech, including topic selection, scriptwriting, and rehearsal. Communication in English: Students will practice Q&A sessions, discussions, and exchanging opinions in English necessary for speeches and presentations.
Writing: Writing Fundamentals: Students will solidify the basics of writing, including grammar, vocabulary, and structure. Writing Practice: Students will practice various writing formats such as essays, reports, and emails. Peer Review and Feedback: Students will improve their writing skills through peer review and feedback from instructors.
Integration of Communication Skills: Importance of Listening Comprehension: Students will understand that listening comprehension is essential for improving communication skills. Interaction Between Listening and Speaking: Students will learn how to analyze information they receive and use it in their communication.
Use of Diverse Content: Videos: Students will watch diverse video content such as TED Talks and news footage to get hints for communication. Audio: Students will listen to diverse audio content such as podcasts and music to help them learn pronunciation and intonation. Texts: Students will read diverse text content such as news articles and blog posts to help them learn vocabulary, grammar, and structure.
Active Learning: Group Work: Students will discuss topics and practice speeches. Presentations: Students will have opportunities to present what they have learned in class. Portfolios: Students will record and reflect on their learning process.
In addition to the above, the goal is to improve the ability to use English in real life (understanding and communicating through audio and written information, i.e., interaction skills), and to acquire learning skills for that purpose. If you hate English to the point of nausea just by looking at the English letters, you don't have to force yourself to like it, but the goal is to at least bring you to the point where you can understand the content of written and audio information, and can read, write, listen, and speak when necessary, in other words, make it usable in real situations. The goal is to break away from "English for fill-out the blank test" that has been ingrained in you since high school and aim for English that is actually used in real situation. Furthermore, this course will gradually change fixed ideas that may be hindering language acquisition. By doing so, you will also acquire the ability to obtain information that you cannot access with Japanese only or your native language alone. When you make mistakes or communication breakdowns, this course will develop the ability to smooth communication by rephrasing or asking again as needed, and build a foundation for being able to meta-cognize your own language skill.
